The Harwell-Boeing collection of sparse matrices

The first recognized collection of sparse matrices is the Harwell-Boeing Collection . This is a standard collection of sparse matrices from a wide range of application areas. It comprises 291 matrices of order from 9 to 44609 and includes symmetric, unsymmetric, rectangular, and unassembled matrices.

Although this collection is still widely used, the matrices are not large by current standards and more applications now give rise to sparse systems. Thus we have developed the Rutherford-Boeing Collection . The Matrix Market has an interface to the Harwell-Boeing Collection that enables data on the matrices, pictures etc to be generated. The Harwell-Boeing Collection is also included within the University of Florida Sparse Matrix Collection . All the matrices in the University of Florida Sparse Matrix Collection are available in the Rutherford-Boeing format .
