HPCx -
The UK's World-Class Service for World-Class Research

The CSE Department, along with our partners
EPCC and
IBM, are providing the
national high performance computing service for UK
academic research - known as HPCx.
The HPCx system consists of 160 IBM pSeries p575 nodes,
each containing 16 1.5GHz POWER5 processors, a total of 2560 processors.
It is located at the UK's
STFC Daresbury Laboratory and
operated by the HPCx Consortium
At the start of service on 9th December 2002
it became the most powerful high performance
computer for academic research in use in Europe.
