The CCP4 Study Weekend
4th - 6th January 2007
We cordially invite you to participate in this year's Study Weekend at the University of Reading. The annual CCP4 Study Weekend is a chance to shake off the post-New Year torpor, and work hard and play hard with your fellow crystallographers. Once again, we have put together an exciting scientific programme for Friday and Saturday, either side of the traditional conference dinner. Please also check out the satellite meetings which may be of interest. The Study Weekend is a chance to catch up with old friends, but is also a chance to meet the CCP4 staff who will be there in force to demonstrate the latest software and to answer questions - please say hello!
The first CCP4 Study Weekend was held at Daresbury Laboratory in November 1980, and covered Refinement of Protein Structures. The meeting was held on a Saturday and Sunday! After a short hiatus, the CCP4 Study Weekend became an annual event, moving to different venues as it gained in popularity. Last year's Study Weekend at Leeds was the largest ever with some 550 participants. Please note that, due to the increasing administrative workload, there will be some sticks and carrots this year to encourage you to register early, or at least on time.
This year, we re-visit one of the central techniques of protein crystallography, namely "Molecular Replacement" This was last considered in 2001, since when there have been a number of significant advances in the subject. Topics to be covered include current state-of-the-art implementations of MR, methods and programs for search model generation, solution validation and model completion, and automated MR pipelines. There will also be a session on docking X-ray structures into an EM map, and on using an EM map as a search model for X-ray data. In keeping with previous CCP4 meetings, the lectures will focus on the presentation and discussion of advanced methods and techniques developed and used by the leaders in the field.
